The African Journal of Rural Development (AFJRD) has devoted Vol 3 Issue 1, 2018 to the hugely important subject of multi-stakeholder partnerships in agricultural research for development. This volume offers space for researchers, practitioners, and farmers working in multi-stakeholder partnerships to share findings of their work beyond the pilots to post-pilot case studies. This is significant because we all know that pilots never fail but at the same time pilots (in ARD) never fly. The rich experiences from the diversity of studies conducted in different agro-ecologies of Africa documented herein will no doubt add to the current knowledge and inform the methodologies to be applied in leveraging science and technology to drive the continent’s agricultural transformation.
