Recent advances in research and innovation have catalysed increased interest in disciplinarities (intra, inter, cross, multi and transdisciplinary) as the most viable approach to addressing global to local problems, challenges and needs. A growing number of publishing houses have launched the disciplinarities journals in recognition of this evolution in science, research and innovation pursuit. The African Journal of Rural Development (AFJRD) is one such journals that seeks to promote multidisciplinary scholarship in Africa. In this Vol 3 Issue 4 articles in the broad dimensions of;

  1. i) biotechnology, ii) extension and rural innovation, iii) agronomy, iv) policy, and v) pollution- environmental science are presented. These dimensions provide opportunity to represent the multidisciplinary dimension of the AFJRD. Considering the largely evolving progress in this dimension, a focused attention to catalysing the practice and appreciation to; i) undertake research within a disciplinarities dimension in particular within the cross, inter, multi and transdisciplinary dimension; ii) publish in non-traditional discipline Journals such as AFJRD; and iii) utilise these platforms; research dimension and publication channels to increase research impact, require considerable support for advancement. It is therefore my hope that through the articles published in this Vol 3 Issue 4, readers and researchers will find merit in routinely considering various disciplinarities in their research pursuit.
